Sterling Wright (University of Kentucky, Safety)

“NC tech, it worked out good for me,” said Wright.  “I just needed to get qualified. My grades were okay but I needed to get a higher score on the SAT,” he added.

NC Tech “was a second chance and it was good—if you are not playing (around) and serious about things.”

Kendall Evans (Shaw University, Tackle)

“It (NC Tech) helped me become a man on and off the field, because Newman put us in the fire. And we had to do what we needed to do,” said Kendall Evans, a tackle/guard from Temple Hills, Maryland who attended Potomac High School and now has a scholarship to play football at Shaw University. “I love all the coach, they were good coaches, especially coach Newman,” said Evans.

“By traveling around like a D-1 college it was a big experience for me. I never been exposed to going to Ohio, Kentucky, (and other states)” Source: "NC Tech Continues Mission of Providing Second Chances and Hope"
“It was a good fit for us, I don’t have nothing bad to say,”

Matthew Reese (Tuskegee, Offensive Line)

Monica Reese (Mother) - "We had a good experience, they worked with us and helped get Mattew into a good place -Tuskegee, (and) they worked with us well. I did not have a bad experience at all. I have no bad thing to say about them, we just had a great experience,” Monica says NC Tech was “very upfront about what he (Matthew) needed to do and they did everything they needed to do to put us in the right place and to talk to the right people,” “We always had contact (with the staff), they were always letting us know what was going on, and if we had any problems we could always get in contact with folks. I never had a problem about anything he (Matthew) needed to do or what was expected of him.”

Nigel Rios (Elizabeth City State)

Mrs. Rios- We came to NC Tech at the last minute because Nigel had difficulty finding a school with his grades.  Coach gave us the information and guidance needed to get into school.  Nigel was one of the last players accepted and we appreciate what Coach Newman did for him.  Nigel became a different you man while at NC Tech and is very appreciative of what they did for him there.  Coach Newman made accomodations for us and we are forever grateful for that.  At Elizabeth City State University Nigel is on the Honor Society thanks to NC Tech helping him grow up.

Derrick Williams (Oklahoma Panhandle State University, DB)

I had a great experience at NC Tech.  I don't know what I would have done without it.  Coach Newman came through for me, I didn't even pay all my bill but he still allowed me to play on the team.  I want to thank the program and the staff for everything and giving me a chance to be successful.  I don't know where I would be without them.

Jaysen Adams (William Penn, DB)

My experience was good.  I got to play with a lot of D1 athletes.  Coach Newman helped me become a real good athlete with his coaching.  You got to come with yourself straight, you can't come halfway.

James Barksdale (North Carolina Central)

NC Tech gave me the ability to become responsible and grown as a man.  It was beneficial to go there because it prepared me for college life, as well as improve my academics.  My advice is to stay focused in order to succeed.

Andrew Johnson (North Carolina Central)

NC Tech was good for me.   It helped me get my score up and can help anybody that takes care of business.

NC Tech is a good place as long as you do your part.  You can't play around if you want to move on.  It will teach you to compete and push yourself to get better.  I would recommend NC Tech to another player because I learned a lot from the coaches and got to compete against great competition.  Be sure to workout before you show up.

Victor Tabbs (Elizabeth City State)

NC Tech is a place to keep your dream alive.  Remember to do what you need to do in order to get what you want to get.

Jim Garner (Spiritual Leader)

What a joy it was when God led me to Coach Tim, his wife, his staff, and the young men that they mentor each year.  I found a contagious enthusiasm for these youth infused with the Spirit of God that permeates all that they are about.  I found a supportive caring spirit that reached out to these young men and staff where every facet of their outreach is centered on Christ.  I praise God for the opportunity and privilege to join Coach Newman and his staff in sharing what God has done and continues to do as an exhilarating part of my Christian walk with God.

I eagerly look forward to every opportunity I have to partner with my Christian brothers and sisters at NC Tech as we share what God is doing in our lives and point them to the truth of God's word and thereby allow God to be glorified and magnified through it all.

Ken Cummingham (Former Coach)

"During my two seasons at NC Tech, I had a great experience as a coach.  I learned valuable information about the NCAA and NAIA.  I was able to recruit student athletes from all across the US.  I was given the opportunity to build relationships with college programs from across the country.  By doing this I was able to talk about NC Tech athletes and make contacts.  The coaching staff was given the opportunity to visit college programs and their practices in order to help improve our coaching ability.  I personally received an opportunity to negotiate an equipment deal with a major university from NC.  Any coach that's passionate about helping kids succeed through football and willing to work hard will have a great experience at NC Tech like I did."

Zephaniah Hawkins (Former Coach)

"Over the course of the two seasons which I was an assistant coach at NC Tech I learned some lifelong lessons under the direction of Head Coach Tim Newman.  One of the most essential things which Coach Newman would preach about is "CHARACTER" and how having good character opens doors for you.  On a lighter note, Coach Newman would frequently reference the jungle, or as he would say "The JUNGO".  He would say only the strong survive in the jungle and that there was no time to have an off day, get sick, or even slip a little, because there is something or some animal waiting on just that.  I think he coaches with that same Jungle Life Mentality the way he intensely prepares his teams for competition, and it show with the way his teams have dominated opponents for years.  Tim Newman is a great coach, leader, mentor, thinker, WINNER!"
